There are numerous of alternatives for your family reunion! You can plan an entire week in one of our many cabins or B&Bs or you can stay in one of our downtown lodging facilities and enjoy the many events we have to offer.

Day 1
Experience the legacy of mountain railroading history that has remained virtually unchanged for over a century. The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad travels through the spectacular scenery of the San Juan Mountains along the Animas River to the town of Silverton. This is one of the most unique experiences you and your family will ever enjoy!

Day 2
Your family will truly enjoy a visit to Mesa Verde National Park. People of all ages will enjoy the guided tours. Explore everything from simple, one-room berths to villages of more than 200 adobe buildings. The entrance fee is $10.00 per car.

Spend a fun-filled evening at the Diamond Circle Theatre where everyone in
the family will enjoy an Authentic Melodrama or Old Time Radio Show followed by a hilarious Vaudeville Revue.

Day 3
Over 10 area stables are ready to outfit you with horses and take you on a guided tour, giving you a relaxing way to explore the mountains. After lunch, take the family to Purgatory to enjoy the Alpine Slide, mountain biking or take a scenic chairlift ride. Enjoy the western flavor of a BBQ dinner at Bar D Chuckwagon or a visit to the Durango Pro Rodeo.

Day 4
Take a ride on the wild side...Durango has over 10 rafting companies to safely guide your whitewater adventure. In the afternoon, experience our extensive network of rugged mountain roads, four wheeling on your own or on a guided jeep tour.

Other Options for Additional Days

  • Take a drive thru San Juan Skyway, one of the most beautiful byways in the country.
  • Rent a pontoon boat at Vallecito Lake.
  • Rent a mountain bike and explore local trails.
  • Play 18 holes of golf at one of our 3 courses while your children play mini golf.
  • Get a Western family portray taken (You will have lot's of fun seeing the change.)
  • Go fishing along the Animas River, at Vallecito Lake or one of our Durango area lakes.
  • Gamble at the Sky Ute Casino in Ignacio while the children enjoy a trip at the Childrens' Museum.
  • Get a massage and a soak at Trimble Hot Springs.
  • Visit one of our renowned museums: Animas Museum, Grand Motorcar and Piano Collection, Durango & Silverton Railroad museum or Children's museum.
  • Browse in the many unique shops along Main Avenue.
  • Enjoy the beauty of our area by taking a ride thru one of our incredible scenic byways.

Popular Durango family activities include the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, Durango Mountain Resort, Dude Ranches, our archeological attractions, Bar D Chuckwagon, horseback rides and rafting trips.

But many also enjoy the simple activity of hiking with family members and our hiking trails offer spectacular views.

Vallecito Lake area in particular offers a cozy and private setting for your family reunions!
