Take a trip through time aboard our historic coal-fired, steam-engine train as you explore the breathtaking canyons of the San Juan National Forest on the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. Explore the spectacular ancient cliff dwellings of the ancestral Pueblo people at Mesa Verde National Park. This  UNESCO World Heritage Site provides a look into everyday life of the Pueblos, where you’ll find some of the best preserved archeological sites in the United States.

Called "the living room of the Durango community", Durango's historic downtown district is a central part of the city's heritage and charm. A sensory treat awaits you as you stroll past vintage shops, restaurants and cafes on Durango's Main Avenue.

Savor the sweeping “postcard” views of Durango, and the surrounding valleys and mountains when you visit Fort Lewis College. Founded in 1911, Fort Lewis College sits on a former 19th century military base at an elevation of 6,872 ft above sea level. This four-year, Liberal Arts College has helped Durango become one of the top 40 college towns in America, as voted by Outside Magazine.

Plan a camping trip to beautiful Vallecito Lake, one of the largest lakes in Colorado. Sheltered in a secluded valley at 8,000 ft. above sea level, and only 18 miles outside Durango, Vallecito Lake is the perfect base to explore the mountain paradise that is the American Southwest!
