The history of our charter dates back to the year the City of Durango incorporated in 1881. The Chamber of Commerce operated under the guise of several different names through its tenure, yet the entire time adhering to the mission of enhancing community businesses and the overall viability of the local economy.
Our current title, the Durango Chamber of Commerce, was adopted in 1931. However, from 1988 to 2002, the Chamber operated under the name of the Durango Area Chamber and Resort Association (DACRA), and in addition to traditional chamber activities, oversaw tourism development in that period of time. In 2003, tourism development was handed off to the Durango Area Tourism Office, and the chamber merged with a local economic development agency, the La Plata Economic Development Action Partnership (LEAD).
