Rev up your engine and get ready to ride as 22,000 iron horses descend on the Durango area for the 2011 Four Corners Motorcycle Rally held September 1-4. Held in conjunction with a number of other area biker events, including Ignacio Bike Week, that span six days, the Four Corners Rally is the crown jewel of motorcycle events in the Four Corners area, offering several days of poker rides, live music, contests, unique vendors, outstanding food, fun, and a whole lot more.
Friday, cruise tohistoric downtown Durango and enjoy lunch at one of Durango’s award-winning breweries. Afterwards, head out to Vallecito Lake and enjoy some great riding and spectacular views along the way. In the evening, music lovers looking for some serious star power should cruise over to the Ute Mountain Casino in nearby Towaoc, CO for a concert by legendary Motley Crue front man Vince Neil and 80’s rockers Loverboy.
Saturday is all about the ride. The Four Corners Rally and Sugar Pine Rally both offer dice and poker runs spanning the Four Corners area. Each event offers several great motorcycle rides in the Durango area, from short loops to all-day trips.
If you’re really looking for a thrill, head out on U.S. Route 550, affectionately dubbed “The Million Dollar Highway.” Named one of the Top 5 Best Rides in the U.S. by the American Motorcyclist Association, the 70-mile stretch of heaven running from Durango to Ouray, Colorado offers miles of twists and turns coupled with the unmatched panoramic beauty of the San Juan National Forest and the towering peaks of the Colorado Rockies. Make the loop over to Cortez where Main Street offers bike-only parking and the city park plays host to live music, an arm wrestling competition, and the crowning of Ms. Four Corners.
Sunday offers several biker breakfasts benefitting local organizations, classic car and bike parades, more live music, and of course, more great motorcycle rides across Southwest Colorado.
