Ignacio

One Cool Little Town!

Stroll Ignacio’s downtown sidewalks for a modern taste of a century-old trading town.  You’ll find espresso, flowers, custom motorcycles and the very best breakfast burritos in Ignacio’s newest and most historic buildings.  Ignacio is traveling a new road of entrepreneurial and cultural investment, thanks to the vibrancy of newcomers and the abundant traditions of the Southern Ute, the Spanish and nearby ranches.

Enjoy murals in nearly every block of Ignacio’s downtown, visit the bustling summer farmer’s market along the Pine River and bring home the work of artisans from stores like Waci’ci  Trading Co., the Peddler’s and Marcella’s Gifts.  Step into the town’s gleaming new library for a view of the historical society’s collection, and in 2010, visit the Southern Ute Museum and Cultural Center next to the gorgeous new Sky Ute Casino and Resort.  Ready to see more? Try Navajo Reservoir and Chimney Rock Archeological Area, both a short drive from Ignacio.

Ignacio celebrates its heritage year-round starting with the Bear Dance in the spring, the century-old San Ignacio Fiesta, rodeos, classic car cruises and the Sun Dance, the Sky Ute Casino PowWow, Ignacio Bike Week - the Four Corners Labor Day Motorcycle Rally, the Southern Ute Fair and the Taste of Christmas.

Blues on the Rails
Choo Choo with the blues… it was no ordinary ride on the scenic steam train and I missed it. The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge train pulled out of the rail yard last Saturday as the “Durango Blues Train” for an evening of Blues on the Rails.
