In 1972 a group of 36 riders decided to celebrate the first Spring run of the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge train by accepting the challenge of racing the steam engine from Durango over 2 mountain passes and 49 miles to Silverton. It's been all up hill since then. Celebrating 40 years, the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic has become one of the most coveted bicycle events in the West and recently named to Outside Magazine’s “Bucket List” of things to do.
The Iron Horse racecourse is an ideal and challenging ride for cyclists as they conquer the famed route. You can ride the course 3 seasons of the year and check it off your personal bucket list! There are plenty of activities lined up for friends and family who come along for the ride and transportation to get you and your bike back to Durango. Each year thousands of riders will feel the thrill of descending into Silverton and looking to see if the train has arrived.
This package includes lodging at your choice of accommodations in Durango - from in-town hotels / motels to cabins, codos and vacation homes - as well as a special 1 way ride aboard the Durango & Silverton Narrow Guage with your bike (please note: bike freight costs aboard the train are not included in the package price and total $25 per bike).
