Explore the pristine winter wonderland of the San Juan Mountain backcountry as it can only be seen by train, which has left this area relatively untouched for over 100 years!
You'll stay at your choice of lodging in Durango, CO with choices from deluxe downtown Victorian style to value oriented budget hotels and motels and everything in between. The next morning you'll ride the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, which winds through the spectacular and breathtaking canyons in the remote wilderness of the two million acre San Juan National Forest. You will relive history with the sights and sounds of yesteryear on this 1882 adventure from Durango to Cascade Canyon aboard a historic coal-fired, steam-operated locomotive are maintained in its original 1923-1925 vintage condition.

The train departs at 10am and stops for a 60-minute break by the rushing Animas River at Cascade Canyon at Noon. Light lunch items are available on the concession car on board the train or you can bring your own (please, no glass or alcohol) as long as it fits under your chair. Following the break, the train returns to Durango with arrival at 3:00pm.
Note: Train tickets for children under 4 are free if seated on an adult's lap. If a seat is required, you must purchase a child's ticket.
