The musical play, Always. . . Patsy Cline opens at the Durango Arts Center, June 11and plays every weekend at 8 PM through September 18. Filled with 27 soul-clutching country hits including Crazy, I Fall to Pieces, Sweet Dreams and Walking after Midnight, Ted Swindley’s Always Patsy Cline stands as a tribute to the legendary country singer who died in a plane crash in 1962 at the age of 30. Based on a true story, the bio-musical review centers on Patsy’s friendship with Louise Seger, a Houston fan who befriended the star in a Texas honky-tonk in 1961. The title comes from the closing in all of Patsy’s letters to Louise, Love always, Patsy Cline.
The DAC’s production stars Traci Lyn Thomas who has appeared in over 25 Equity professional productions all over the US. She starred as Fantine in the national tour of Les Miserables and last year delighted area audiences as Annie in Annie Get Your Gun in Farmington, NM.
Tickets, $20 adults and $18 for children age 12 and under and for DAC members are available April 1 at the DAC box office or online at www.Durangoarts.org. For information call the DAC, 970-259-2606. The Durango Arts Center is located at 802 E. 2nd Avenue in Durango, Colorado.
Coincidentally, Always. . . Patsy Cline returns to Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium summer 2010, marking the fiftieth anniversary of Cline’s induction in the Grand Ole Opry. Always . . . Patsy Cline will steal, melt or break your heart and even country music-haters will find it’s a whole lotta fun. Patsy’s alive again at the DAC.
