Battle of the Animas set for June 9th
Durango, Co.-Mild to Wild Rafting and Jeep Tours 9th annual Battle of the Animas will take place Wednesday, June 9th, 2010. The Battle of the Animas pits local businesses against each other in a head-to-head paddle-rafting race down the Animas River.
Local restaurants, tourist shops and lodging establishments race as teams of six to eight plus a Mild to Wild Guide.
Teams meet at the Mild to Wild office at 1:00 p.m. for registration and they will be shuttled to the drop in site. The race starts at 2:00 p.m. at 32nd Street and finish at Santa Rita Park. The start is a Le Monde style with all boats leaving the shore at the same time.
After the race, winning teams will receive awards, including a trophy for the first place team. Zia Taqueria, the two time defending champion will be out on the water to defend their title again this year. Steamworks Brewing Company will provide a free barbecue after awards at the Mild to Wild office.
Entry fee is a $50 gift certificate donation from restaurants and stores or one night lodging from lodging establishments. This guarantees each team a raft and includes a personal floatation device, a guide for the raft, paddles and optional helmets for the race.
