DURANGO, COLO., (Aug. 31, 2010) —Ska Brewing Co., fresh off a celebration of its 15th Anniversary that featured Seattle’s Supersuckers and 15 regional breweries, announced today that it has won several medals at two recent national and international brewing competitions. It is still unclear, however, where the medals will be kept. “We’re thrilled that four of our beers won medals at the L.A. International Beer Competition and the Colorado State Fair. The thing is, we’re not sure where we’re going to put them,” said an obviously distraught Dave Thibodeau, Ska President and Co-Founder. “Right now we’re leaning towards displaying them in the small cabinet by Arlo’s desk, since that’s more of a socializing area, really.”
The medals included a Gold for Ska’s Decadent Imperial IPA and a Silver for True Blonde at the L.A. International Commercial Beer Competition, and a Gold for Ska’s flagship Pinstripe Red Ale along with a Silver for their recently-released Clancy’s Black. Clancy’s Black is the result of a homebrewers competition in which the winning recipe is brewed and bottled by Ska for release in their “Local Series”, and for entry into several beer festivals and competitions. Ska Decadent was first brewed in celebration of Ska’s 10th Anniversary.
“It’s great to kick off the beer competition season with these medals,” said Bill Graham, Co-Founder and Overlord of Brewing Operations. “But it does put a lot of pressure on us in terms of finding a really good place to put them.” Fortunately, the Ska crew is so busy preparing for the upcoming Great American Beer Festival, (GABF), and Denver Beer Fest, that they hardly have time to think about where to keep their recent awards.
Denver Beer Fest is a 10-day celebration of all things beer, including beer tastings at local Denver restaurants, beer-paired dinners, "meet the brewer" nights, beer tappings, Denver brewery tours and a variety of entertaining beer events throughout the Mile High City including Oktoberfest and GABF. This year, Ska will be participating in and hosting more events than ever before. For more information on Ska events during Denver Beer Fest, visit Ska’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/skabrew.
