Durango, Colorado — The Durango Independent Film Festival (DIFF) has created a unique fund-raising event — the First Annual Walk of Fame. The Walk of Fame experience begins at 5:00 pm on Saturday, October 16, 2010. This event benefits DIFF’s 2011 Festival, which will take place March 2-6, 2011. Tickets are $50 per person.
Guests, deemed “Stars” for the evening, will start at one of seven locations where Hollywood-esque Tour Guides will lead party-goers to a different venue every 30 minutes. The venues, all in a two block radius in historic downtown Durango, will have food, wine, beer and refreshments, and feature a theme with appropriate entertainment.
“There aren’t many opportunities to pay $50 and enjoy 7 different parties with open bar and delicious food, in addition to being treated like the rich and famous,” said Joanie Fraughton, DIFF’s Executive Director. “This even is a great tie-in to our “Our Kind of Film Festival” theme for the 2011 Festival. According to Fraughton, the venues are Mutu’s Restaurant, The Rochester Hotel, First Southwest Bank, Golden Triangle, Karyn Gabaldon Gallery, and Open Shutter Gallery. The final destination, the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Train Museum, will host the Grande Finale Party where DIFF event organizers will roll out the red carpet to welcome all of the Walk of Fame guests. In addition to dessert and open bar, a live auction, movies in the movie train car, and other entertainment are planned for the Train Museum venue.
In a unique twist, the silent auction for this event will be held the month prior to the event, at each of the seven Walk of Fame venues. This silent auction will truly be a “Durango” auction to the letter. Seven artists have been commissioned to decorate one letter each — spelling D.U.R.A.N.G.O. — and excellent prize packages have been created to accompany their works of art. The silent auction bidding begins September 20th at Mutu’s, Rochester Hotel, First Southwest Bank, Golden Triangle, Karyn Gabaldon Gallery, Open Shutter and the DSNGRR Train Museum. Winners will be announced at the Grand Finale Party at the Train Museum.
Tickets for this event, $50 per person, can be purchase online at durangofilm.org or by calling the DIFF office at 970-375-7779.
