Downtown Colorado, Inc. Announces 2010 Governor's Awards for Downtown Excellence Winners
  Winners Honored at Governor's Awards Gala, September 23, Glenwood Springs

DENVER -- September 9, 2010 -- Downtown Colorado, Inc. (DCI), a nonprofit membership organization committed to building better communities through educational and technical assistance, as well as the coordinator of the Colorado Main Street Program, is pleased to announce the 2010 winners of the Governor's Awards for Downtown Excellence.
Since 2003, the Governor's Awards has recognized outstanding projects and people that reflect an attitude of perseverance and dedication to community revitalization in Colorado. All 2010 nominated projects were completed between September 1, 2008 and June 30, 2010.
 
The 2010 Governor's Awards for Downtown Excellence winners are:

  • Best Building Adaptive Reuse: The Armory at Brighton Cultural Center, City of Brighton
  • Best Building Rehabilitation: Windsor Town Hall, Town of Windsor
  • Best New Construction: A Regional Hub for Transit, City of Durango
  • Best Promotional Event: Frozen Dead Guy Days, Nederland DDA
  • Best Public Space Project: Lyons Main Street Project, Town of Lyons
  • Best Downtown Management: City of Brush!
  • Downtown Revitalization, Under 5,000 Population: Town of Ignacio
  • Downtown Revitalization, Over 5,000 Population: City of Lamar
  • Downtowner of the Year: Towny Anderson, Main Street Steamboat Springs

All Governor's Awards winners will be featured at the Governor's Award Gala Dinner and Reception (included with conference registration; individual tickets also available for $80) at the Hotel Colorado September 23, 2010, at 6:30pm. (Reception with drinks and appetizers will begin at 5:30pm.) All winners also receive a certificate signed by Lt. Governor Barbara O'Brien, State of Colorado; Susan Kirkpatrick, Executive Director, Department of Local Affairs; Steve Turner, Director, State Historical Fund; and Mark Leese, Board of Directors President, Downtown Colorado, Inc.
 
"The entries for this year's Governor's Awards represent an incredible level of excellence and focus on downtown revitalization and historic preservation," says Katherine Correll, Executive Director, Downtown Colorado, Inc. "Each of the winning projects highlights a community effort to enhance the downtown atmosphere through both improvements to the built environment as well as celebrations of the unique history and character that make Colorado communities so wonderful. We are so pleased to see so many public and private leaders dedicated to economic development through downtown revitalization."

The Governor's Awards presentations take place during DCI's three-day annual conference, Downtown Trends: Essential Community Responses to the New Economic Reality this September 22-24, 2010 in Glenwood Springs.
