Durango, Colorado – December 19, 2010. After a prolonged warm and dry spell across SW Colorado, Durango Mountain Resort is getting a major winter storm. More than a foot of snow has fallen in the last couple days and the forecast is calling for 2-5 feet of snow by Tuesday afternoon in the southern San Juan Mountains.
Steady snow has been falling all day, creating great ski conditions. Durango Mountain Resort CEO, Gary Derck says “The timing of this storm is perfect. We are going to have great conditions and our holiday skiing should be exceptional”.
With continued heavy snow in the forecast, Durango Mountain Resort is planning to open the backside (chair 8) of the mountain sometime next week. Once lift 8 is open, guests will have access to the entire mountain. The resort plans to open the tubing hill on December 22nd. People wanting to follow the storm can visit www.durangomountainreort.com or follow DMR on Facebook or Twitter.
