Purgatory to Start Daily Operations on Friday, Dec. 9!

Last Storm Dumps Nearly Two Feet of Snow.

DURANGO, Colo. –  With 21 inches of snow blanketing the resort since Thursday, Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort will open Lift 1 and the frontside of the mountain for daily operations starting on Friday, Dec. 9. 

“Thanks to Mother Nature and this latest storm, we currently have exceptional conditions and some of the best skiing and riding in the entire state,” stated Mike McCormack, senior vice president of Mountain Operations.   “Our mountain crews are hard at work preparing the mountain for daily operations in order to provide skiers and riders with a good mix of terrain.”

Purgatory will have top-to-bottom skiing and riding off Lift 1, the Purgatory Village Express Lift or the “6-pack” as locals refer to it.  With the recent storm, additional trails were opened last weekend, such as Paradise, Upper Hades, Pandemonium, Mercy, Catharsis and Tinker’s Dam, among others.  The mid-mountain snow depth is 34 inches.  Additional information on open trails will be available on Friday.

This coming weekend is a great opportunity to experience our new High Angle Grooming initiative made possible with the state-of-the-art Prinoth Bison X Winch-Cat. New this season, DMR will regularly manicure portions of many of the frontside steeps to provide something for every advanced skier and rider.

Discounted lift tickets are available Friday- Sunday for $43 adults; $33 students (13 yrs – high school) and seniors (65-69 yrs); and $23 kids (6-12 yrs) and goldens (70+ yrs).  Prices are subject to change as more terrain and lifts come online.  Weekday passes will be honored this Fri., Dec. 9 through Sun., Dec. 11.  Beginning December 12th, weekday passes are only valid Monday through Friday.

Durango Mountain Resort has a lot of exciting activities over the next couple of weeks.  This Sunday, Dec. 11 is DMR’s first College Day.  Lift tickets are $30 for students with valid college ID from any college.
 
On Dec. 17 & 18, Backcountry Experience BrewSKI Demofest will bring winter sports and local craft beer together for one exciting weekend at Durango Mountain Resort.  Winter sports enthusiasts can demo new winter sports equipment like alpine skis, tele skis, snowboards, snowbikes, snowshoes, backcountry skis, boots, accessories, avalanche safety gear and more.  Then, savor delicious samples of local award-winning craft beers from Steamworks Brewing Company and Ska Brewing from 11am to 2pm in Purgy’s. Sun., Dec. 18 is the first Locals Benefit Day of the season and the recipient is the Durango Foundation for Educational Excellence (DFEE), which provides funding for projects and programs that are not included in the 9-R School District’s budget.  Locals Benefit Day lift tickets are $40 adults; $32 students/seniors; and $25 children with coupon.  Locals Benefit Day lift ticket coupons will be available in the Durango Telegraph and online at www.skipurg.com/localsday.
