Ska Brewing Named “Business Of The Year”
DURANGO, COLO., (Jan. 21, 2011) —Ska Brewing Co. was named Durango’s “Business Of The Year” yesterday in an annual award sponsored by the Durango Chamber of Commerce.
“We usually like to poke fun at awards, but to be honest this has been an incredible year for Ska,” says Dave Thibodeau, Ska President and Co-Founder. “This award is because of what our employees do every day at work. We’re truly grateful for the team we have and we’re happy to have the Durango Chamber recognize their efforts.”
2010 was a year of significant milestones for the brewery, including:
Beer Competition Medals – Ska claimed a bronze medal for their ESB Special Ale at this year’s Great American Beer Festival Competition, the largest commercial beer competition in the world, as well as gold and silver medals at the Los Angeles International Commercial Beer Competition, and gold and silver medals at the Colorado State Fair Commercial Competition.
Regional Craft Brewer Status/Second Canning Line – Ska moved from ‘microbrewery’ to ‘regional craft brewery’(as defined by the Craft Brewers Association) in late 2010 when their annual production exceeded 15,000 barrels for the first time. The brewery also doubled its canning capacity with the addition of a second canning line in October.
15th Anniversary – Ska celebrated its 15th anniversary in late August with a beer specially brewed for the occasion and a party featuring popular Northwest rockers ‘The Supersuckers’.
2010 Colorado Companies To Watch – Ska was one of 50 companies statewide to be named to the prestigious ‘Colorado Companies To Watch’ list, organized by the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade in association with economic development councils throughout the state. An independent panel selected the companies based on factors including growth, entrepreneurial leadership and sustainable competitive advantage.
Colorado CEO of the Year – Ska President and Co-Founder Dave Thibodeau was one of three finalists for ColoradoBiz Magazine’s ‘Colorado CEO of the Year’ award.
