The Visit Durango Board of Directors is currently accepting applications to fill one vacant seat and also announces two upcoming seats to represent key sectors of La Plata County’s tourism industry. The board is seeking qualified, passionate individuals to help fulfill Visit Durango’s mission to:

  • Promote the Durango brand
  • Generate demand in visitation and increase overnight stays
  • Support a positive visitor experience
  • Drive economic development for the benefit of visitors and local stakeholders
  • Meet the needs of the local community in terms quality of life

Board members help steer destination marketing and foster open communications with Visit Durango and businesses in their sector. The Board is currently accepting applications for the following seats:

  • Retail Sector - available now, application open until filled
  • Restaurant Sector - available December 31, 2020, application October 31, 2020  
  • Special Events Sector - available December 31, 2020, application October 31, 2020

Applicants interested in serving on Visit Durango’s Board of Directors must be employed by, or own, a company involved in promoting their respective sector and based in Durango or La Plata County. The role of every board member is to provide strategic insight and promote tourism in the Durango area. Board members also act as a conduit of information between Visit Durango and businesses and organizations in the local tourism industry. “Board members are vital to the local tourism economy and serve an important role to champion our local business community and the Durango brand,” said Bruce Moss, Board chair with Visit Durango. “This is a great opportunity to support the local tourism economy while giving back and serving our community.”


  • Members of the Board of Directors shall serve without compensation. Basic responsibilities include:
  • Represent, in an equal and fair manner, the business sector they represent. This includes maintaining regular communication with sector peers to inform and educate them about Visit Durango operations and opportunities, to encourage Visit Durango involvement, to report on changes or activities in their sectors, and to represent their ideas and feedback.
  • Attend monthly board meetings held on the third Tuesday of every month.
  • Familiarize themselves with important Visit Durango operating policies such as bylaws, board and committee governance, marketing opportunities available to tourism providers, and notices of importance and interest.
  • Participate as needed on board committees,
  • Attend annual board retreat.

Visit Durango is a public organization funded by City and County Lodgers Tax. Therefore, all Board Meetings and Board Retreats are open to the public. Below, you will find the 2020 Board Meeting and Retreat schedule. All meetings are currently held at the Holiday Inn.
