Harrison will oversee the organization’s domestic and international destination marketing strategy

The Durango Area Tourism Office (DATO) is pleased to announce Suzanne Harrison as Director of Marketing. Harrison will oversee the organization’s domestic and international destination marketing strategy, effective immediately.

Suzanne brings over 25 years of experience to her new role with DATO, having worked across a variety of traditional and digital mediums. She moved to Durango in 2012 from Seattle and spent four years with Ballantine Communications, Inc. as Vice President of Sales, before starting her own agency, Convergency Marketing in 2016. Prior to that Suzanne held leadership positions with Time, Inc. and Amazon, among other leading marketing and information technology firms.

“Suzanne is a highly accomplished sales and marketing professional and a welcome addition to our team,” explains Frank Lockwood, Executive Director with DATO. “Her proven track record developing high level marketing strategies, advertising and digital campaigns will be instrumental in taking the organization to new heights.”

DATO plans to ramp up digital marketing and sales efforts in 2019, which will have a dramatically positive impact on revenue, tax collections and recovery after the 416 Fire. In 2017, Colorado posted a 41-percent increase in visitation, more than twice the 20-percent growth rate of US travel since the depths of recession in 2009, so there is tremendous opportunity for Durango to maximize ROI.

“It’s an honor to have been selected for this position and represent Durango,” adds Suzanne Harrison. “As an avid skier and cyclist, I fell in love with this community when I moved here six years ago, and I’m thrilled for the opportunity to combine my passions for marketing, sales, travel, and outdoor recreation.”

The Durango area is Southwest Colorado’s premier four-season destination, attracting more than 600,000 visitors annually. For information about the Durango Area Tourism Office, please contact Theresa Blake Graven for media inquiries, or visit Durango.org.
