Where to Watch Super Bowl LIII in Durango
With the biggest day of football just around the corner, we’re looking forward to the best ways to celebrate Super Bowl Sunday. No matter what jersey you’re sporting, you’ll find good company, great food, and plenty of beer at the local hangouts around Durango.
From lakeside saloons and downtown taverns, to a local chicken house and a mountain bar, these are some of our favorite sport destinations for catching the Super Bowl.
1. Cuckoos Chicken House
With its standing title as “Best Place in Durango to get Hot Wings,” it should be obvious why Cuckoos Chicken House made the list. This sports bar on College Avenue is known to cater to the local college community and hosts a relaxed, family-friendly vibe. With a full bar, plenty of seating, and more than twenty sauces and dry rubs to choose from for your wings, you’ll have everything you need for a great viewing party.
2. Derailed Pourhouse
With Super Bowl Sunday marking the end of Durango’s 41st annual Snowdown Festival, the Derailed Pour House on Main Avenue is hosting its once-a-year Snowdown Slowdown Superbowl Party. Along with the game, nachos, tacos, jalapeno poppers, and delicious burgers, you’re likely to find prizes and plenty of costumed regulars. This comfy-cozy tavern will be lit up with activity so find a good table quick or hit the bar. May we suggest the moscow mule?
One of Durango’s newer sports bars offers up great views of both the game and the outdoors. Located on Highway North on the way up the Purgatory Mountain Resort, this trendy space is a little slice of sports heaven and may offer a break from the crowds of Main Avenue. The televisions are huge, the service never fails to be wonderful and the food is everything a Super Bowl fan could dream of.
4. Westside Pub and Grill
If you’re looking for an unassuming, relaxed destination where you can kick back and enjoy the game at every angle, the Holiday Inn’s onsite sports bar is prepped for the show. With 13 HD TVs surrounding the seating area, a full bar, and full menu of bar bites and entrees, what more could you need?
One of, if not the best, biker bar in southwest Colorado will be celebrating football all Sunday long. Located on the North Shore of the Vallecito Reservoir, the Rusty Shovel has beautiful views of the water and is a nice escape into the woods. On Sundays, you’ll find $8 pulled pork sandwiches and beef brisket, along with $5 bloody marys, and their full bar. Happy Hour runs from 4-7, meaning that Super Bowl fans will be completely set! Play pool or shuffleboard during halftime and keep complete views of the game!
If great pizza, crazy crowds, hoppin’ bar games, and total hilarity sound like a great way to spend a day of football, the Olde Schoolhouse Cafe has never failed to deliver. The small little cabin you’ll find north of Durango seems modest, step inside into a whole new world of activity. The chaos is part of the fun here, so if you’re willing and patient, the great staff will keep you fed, hydrated, and entertained all night long.
Calzones, pizza, garlic knots, beer, poutine, and every other rich and delicious carb you can think of to fuel up for the Super Bowl can be found at JBo’s. After ordering from the loaded menu of BBQ and pizza, park yourself at Maloney’s for 19 beers on tap, full bar, and a line of big screens for watching the game.
A Few Other Options:
Planning to stay in and enjoy your own television? Grassburger is offering special pick-up and delivery Super Bowl Burger Boxes that include a ¼ lb grass-fed beef burger with all the fixins and chips.
Before kickoff, Purgatory Mountain Resort will host its last day ski event of Snowdown, a beloved tradition as old as the event itself. It’ll give you a chance to play in the snow and work some muscles before hunkering down at the Bear Bar for bloody marys and BBQ.
