The Durango Cowboy Poetry Gathering, taking place October 4th - 7th, 2018, is a non-profit organization working to preserve and perpetuate the traditions of working ranch people in the American West since 1989.
Headquarters for the 30th Annual Durango Cowboy Poetry Gathering are in the Strater Hotel from October 4th - 7th, 2018. Many free performances of cowboy poetry and music are held in various locations in downtown Durango. Weekend events also include the Cowboy Poet Train on the historic Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, Cowboy Poet Trailride at Rapp Corral, Western Variety Show at the Durango Arts Center and receptions at many local galleries. The highlight of the weekend is on Saturday, October 6th, with a Cowboy Chuckwagon Breakfast at 7:30am followed by the "motorless" Cowboy Parade at 10am on Main Avenue.
