Open year-round, The Powerhouse is Southwest Colorado's largest hands-on, interactive Science Center and MakerLab for all ages. We are dedicated to providing innovative learning and empowering you! Located on the banks of the Animas River, right on the River Trail in Durango's nationally historic coal-fired, steam-generated AC powerplant, The Powerhouse is a dynamic place for family adventure, makers and tinkerers, childhood learning, special events, and just a place to relax along the river while downtown. So if you love hanging around by the river, messing around with amazing technology, and seeing a part of our nation's history then drop by.

The Powerhouse Exhibit Gallery - Virtually travel to the highest peaks that surround Durango, try you hand at air rockets, experiemnt with our augmented reality sandbox, or get creative in our TinkerLab. See our nationally historic generators and equipment from the one of the world's first AC power genration plants. 6,000 sq feet of exhibits to explore

MakerLab at The Powerhouse Unleash your creativity with powerful tools of invention and a community of fellow makers. If you love to work with some real workshop equipment come on in.

Toddler Time Every Wednesday in the morning, we have some reserved time where families and toddlers can play, explore, meet others like them, and participate in a short, age-appropriate science lesson.

Carver Brewing Plaza - come relax down by the Animas River (weather permitting) right along the River Trail.  Play with our outdoor games, quench you thirst (non alcholic as well as full bar) and on Thurdsays particiapte in Durangos most popular trivia night.

For our school and student visitors:

Camp Discovery Get your geek on this summer! Learn to use 3D printers, battle Judo Bots, dissect ograns, and become a future botanist by participating in a Camp Discovery session. For ages 3-16.

Field Trips A field trip to the Powerhouse Science Center is a fun, memorable, hands-on science adventure that we’re sure your students will never forget.

Science Career Ladder An innovative education and employment program providing fun and meaningful work experience to middle school, high school and college students.

Sudden Science A youth educational outreach program aimed at fulfilling our mission: To ignite curiosity, spark imagination, and power exploration.
