The annual Durango Independent Film Festival is an early spring destination festival cultivating a reputation as a filmmaker's festival. Located in picturesque southwestern Colorado, filmmakers enjoy staying within walking distance of three venues, fine restaurants, boutiques, brew pubs, art galleries and historic Victorian hotels. Durango offers many recreational diversions such as the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge train and early spring skiing at nearby Purgatory Resort.
This 5-day festival in downtown Durango theatres, March 1 - 5, will be followed by virtual screenings featuring a sampling of festival films seen in theatres. Free events during festival week include Free Movie Night on the festival's opening night, March 1, 2023, Coffee Talk with Filmmakers and Filmmaker Panels. Each year, the festival screens an eclectic mix of Narrative and Documentary Features and Shorts, Adventure, Family and Native Cinema films. This festival also curates and shares educational and creative films with La Plata County students in their REEL Learning program.
In 2023, Festival films will be screening in the Durango Arts Center, Animas City Theatre and the Gaslight Twin Cinemas.
