Every second Wednesday of each month, the Durango Amateur Radio Club (DARC) holds their monthly meeting at Creature Comforts. Whether you're a member or not, or even have a radio license or not, we welcome any prospective members or just those in the community who might want to learn about future events. At the end of each meeting, there is a demonstration or presentation about the science of radio. Amateur radio, as a hobby, is so much more involved than just talking to people. You know all those jeep trails north of Silverton where there's no cell service? With amateur radio, you can get out in emergencies. From emergency communications to learning about the science involved, there's something for everyone in the hobby.
What we do?
DARC maintains several radio repeaters in remote areas of the surrounding area to allow emergency communication outside of cell coverage. We also volunteer our time for events, such as the Hardrock 100, Iron Horse Classic, the Balloon rally, and others. We also work closely with Search and Rescue and have a local team of volunteer examiners to test for licenses, should you choose to pursue it. We're a group of nerds. Come say hello!
