The ride starts at Cundiff Park in Durango, Colorado. From there the route takes you down the Animas River Trail to the "Home Depot" Bridge where you will cross the river.
Once across the bridge, you will be riding on La Posta Road until you meet Highway 550 where the route continues south along the highway. There is a little shoulder for the first mile until it becomes 2 lanes going south with a wider shoulder.
Just after the Stateline, you can stop at the Gas Station if you need to.
The Aid Station with lunch will be at the intersection of Hwy. 550 and San Juan County Rd. 2300. The route turns to the west on a gas field road where if you are just interested in the dirt portion of the ride you can start here.
You will take CR. 2300 over a mesa, past a cattle ranch through Cox Canyon wash before reaching the East rim of Kiffen Canyon. Continuing on the road taking it to the bottom of the canyon and up the other side.
If you are familiar with the Road Apple trail system welcome to the "Big Apple" trail section. The trail flows mostly downhill with a few small intermittent climbs along the way. There is one section where the trail splits and we will be going to the right. Stay the ridge at this point all the way to Foothills Road. We get to follow it South until reaching Light Plant Road which is where you hit Kinsey's trail.
You can take "Lake View" trail down to some freeride jumps or "Wild Bill" trail for a little more ridge riding before climbing back up to Kinsey's trail. Once you get to Foothills Road there's more, look for the last few sections of trail through the neighborhood passing by the BLM office on your way to San Juan College.
