Arts, Culture & Heritage

You won't have to look hard to notice that Durango is rich in history. Native American heritage can be glimpsed at Mesa Verde National Park, the Southern Ute Museum, and the Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College. Once referred to as the Silver State, Colorado's rich mining history can be seen via the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, as you travel the same rails gold and silver took from the mines to the smelter. Tour the Strater Hotel and see the room where Louis L'Amour wrote so many of his western novels. And no summertime visit to Durango is complete without heading to the Bar D for a chuckwagon dinner complete with a western stage show!
