Signature Durango Event
The City of Durango, Citizens Climate Lobby, Climate Love Project, and Indivisible's Environmental Committee have teamed up with Durango Nature Studies for this FREE, fun -- very kid-friendly -- community event.Borrowing a phrase from Dr. Seuss' Lorax, our theme for the April 21st Earth Day Festival is "Loving My Planet a Whole Awful Lot."
We know it's Easter Sunday, so we're doing things a little differently for this year's event. We'll be starting off with a litter clean-up along the Animas River Trail at 12:00pm. We'll have family-friendly zones as well as areas along the river banks for the older participants. While we won't host the traditional Earth Day 5k this year, we will have "plogging."
The Festival's start time at Rotary Park is 1:00pm, with the Pete Guiliani Band kicking things off and some fun refreshments from local favorites.
A number of environmental organizations will be on hand to share what they're doing, have some fun activities for kids, and show you ways you can get involved in loving our planet.
In addition, we have a line up of great speakers who will encourage and inspire you with their stories.
Four Corners River Sports is kicking off the kayaking season with a couple of races at ~3:30. Take advantage of what is sure to be some fun whitewater this season and sign up today to test your mettle against others. All proceeds from the nominal registration fee benefit DNS' scholarship fund.
Finally, participants are encouraged to parade from Rotary Park to the library at 3:30 to demonstrate their love for our planet. Participants can either park at the library or return along the river trail and cheer on the kayak racers.
Include Earth Day in your Easter celebrations!
