After 11 months of development, the Durango Area Tourism Office (DATO) unveiled its new travel website, Durango.org. From self-editable business listings to a new itinerary builder, Durango.org has emerged as an industry-leading resource for businesses and tourists alike.

“DATO’s mission is to generate demand in visitation and overnight stays to La Plata County and we rely on Durango.org to engage and influence tourists’ travel decisions,” says Bob Kunkel, DATO Executive Director. “We focused on creating a beautifully designed, simple-to-use travel planning tool for tourists while simultaneously providing an industry-leading, free opportunity for all Tourism Suppliers in La Plata County to promote their offering.”

DATO contracted Griffin & Associates (partnered with Xynergy Web Design) to create an information rich website that offers an itinerary builder, dynamic content population; a password protected Industry Partner Toolbox, parallax scrolling and more.

Because the ultimate effectiveness of the website is determined by the quality of its content, Paul Eckenrode, DATO Marketing Analyst and website project manager and Whitney Hagen, DATO Graphics and Content Coordinator, pushed for a new delivery system where local tourism businesses would provide quality content in order to promote themselves through the website. Each of the La Plata County 670+ tourism suppliers now has the ability and responsibility to update and maintain their own free listing on Durango.org. The site also provides 24/7 access to Durango Tourism news, advertising opportunities, marketing photos, and ways to get involved with the Durango Area Tourism Office through a password-protected Industry Partner Toolbox.

The Durango Tourism Office is conducting weekly training sessions through the end of 2014 to help industry partners effectively use the site in their marketing efforts. Email marketing@durango.org to schedule a training session.
