Colorado Photography Week brings a celebration of photography, creativity, and visual storytelling to Durango. Held annually during the week before Thanksgiving, this new statewide event brings Durango and surrounding communities to life through a celebration of art, history, and culture. Throughout the week, visitors can enjoy photography exhibits, artist talks, hands-on experiences, and special events. Visitors can admire world-class photography at local galleries, explore historic images at famous Durango hotels, or discover Southern Ute history and culture through exhibits in Ignacio. With galleries, restaurants, museums, and local businesses joining the celebration, photography comes to life in unexpected places across the community.
The week's signature event, the Colorado Pro Photographer Showdown, takes place at Fort Lewis College, where five professional photographers compete live for $12,000 in cash prizes, including a $10,000 Best in Show award. Other highlights include the Alpine Bank Youth Photography Showcase, presentations by award-winning photographers, and live photo shoots. With many events free and open to the public, Colorado Photography Week welcomes seasoned photographers, curious beginners, families, and art lovers alike to find inspiration and see Durango through a whole new lens.
