Hiking in Durango is an incredible experience. Within an hour's drive of downtown Durango lies over 100 miles of pristine trails with a variety of landscapes and terrains. In a single day, you can hike on the high-desert terrain of southern and western Durango, high-mountain terrain north of Durango, and Pine and Aspen forests within the city limits of Durango.
View the entire Animas Valley from above and La Plata Mountains from afar on the Animas Mountain Trail. Experience history and hike part of the Colorado Trail to Gudy's Rest. Stroll the Animas River Trail through town. Or, last but not least, get ready to put in some miles and hike into the Weminuche Wilderness from Vallecito or Sunlight and Windom Peak from Purgatory!
