Just because the snow is falling doesn't mean the hiking stops! With thousands of acres of backcountry terrain and trails, Durango is the perfect spot for the adventurous snowshoer.
Snowshoeing is a favorite pastime in Durango, where you’ll find fresh powder, serenity, and picturesque views all on foot. Durango has many well-marked snowshoe trails and lots of backcountry access for those who want to explore!
Some of our favorite spots for snowshoeing in Durango:
This gorgeous trail segment provides high alpine views and wraps around Little Molas Lake, flirting with treeline along the way. There is no shortage of huge peaks within view of this trail segment loved by many winter recreationists.
Located at the summit of Coal Bank Pass and the base of Engineer Mountain, this peaceful winding trail flows through the trees offering quick glances of perhaps Durango’s most iconic high alpine mountain. Once through the heavily timbered area the trail breaks out into beautiful alpine meadows at the base of the peak, offering sweeping views of the Needles Mountains and Animas Valley.
A scenic 20 mile out and back trail crossing through breathtaking open meadows and winding around cliffs. This trail could be taken all the way to Rico and back if you have the endurance!
