San Juan Brewfest
2020 date – Saturday August 29, 2020
The Brewfest is always held the Saturday before Labor Day weekend (August 28, 2021; August 27, 2022; August 26, 2023)
The San Juan Brewfest is the biggest and best beer tasting festival in the Four Corners. It typically features up to 50 breweries, over 100 beers to taste, live music, and benefits United Way of Southwest Colorado. It is always held on the Saturday before Labor Day weekend in Downtown Durango at Buckley Park. Tickets go on sale June 1, and ticket options include a VIP ticket, a General Admission ticket and a Designated Driver ticket. Prices range from $20 to $80.
Attendees receive a 5 oz tasting glass upon entry, and then unlimited tastings from the participating breweries. Food is available for purchase on site, and live music is always provided. VIP’s receive a few extras – an invite to a private party with the participating breweries the night before the Brewfest, one hour early entry the day of the Brewfest, and access to the VIP Tent with shaded seating and a small meal.
The Brewfest is a fundraiser for United Way of Southwest Colorado, and in 2019 generated over $50,000 for this great, local charity!
The Brewfest was born at Purgatory Resort in 1998, so we turned 21 in 2019. It was held at the ski resort through 2007, and in 2008 moved to Downtown Durango where it became a fundraiser for our local United Way. Over the past 12 years, the event has grown from 300 attendees and 15 breweries, to 2,500 attendees and 50 breweries. The Brewfest has sold out for the past six years, and has become one of Durango’s best annual events.
The Brewfest enjoys a unique partnership with the Thirsty 13 Half Marathon. Runners are offered an option to buy a half price ticket to the Brewfest when registering for the race, and both events are always held on the same day.
If you like craft beer, live music, and raising money for charity, the Brewfest is for you! Durango is a busy place in summer, but the Brewfest is always at the tail end of our high season when most families are no longer traveling for their summer vacations. The weather is always nice at this time of year, and Buckley Park is a wonderful venue in Historic Downtown Durango for this event. Downtown offers over 200 unique shops and restaurants and bars for your enjoyment before and after the event. Hotels are reasonably priced and Durango will be adding nearly 500 new rooms in 2020 to its inventory. Getting around Durango is easy with public transit, which is FREE the day of the San Juan Brewfest. There are direct flights daily to Durango from Denver, Phoenix and Dallas, plus seasonal flights from Los Angeles, Chicago and Houston. Get here, park the car, and enjoy our town and some amazing beers!
