Our Mission

THE VISIT DURANGO MISSION

Visit Durango, established January 1, 2003, operates with the mission to promote Durango and La Plata County’s multitude of tourism attractions, events, and services.  The role of Visit Durango is to represent the entire breadth of all Durango and La Plata County businesses in the tourism and hospitality industry on a year-round basis. Visit Durango is funded by both City of Durango and La Plata County lodger’s tax.  This tax is paid by visitors and collected via the lodging facilities under the following ordinances:

CITY OF DURANGO

City of Durango Lodgers Tax “will provide revenues for advertising the community, improving its transportation services, financing new facilities, attracting conferences, conventions and meetings of a commercial, cultural, educational and social nature to the city and to allocate a portion of the revenue derived there for administrative and clerical expenses”
(Article IV - Lodgers Tax Sec. 23-87 Purpose, City of Durango).

LA PLATA COUNTY

La Plata County Lodgers Tax is “designated for advertising and marketing tourism” (1998 DACRA/Lodgers Tax Panel/ Tourism Promotion Agreement).
