Durango, Colorado is home to one of the oldest cycling advocacy groups in the nation, as well as a number of other community-minded and competitive biking groups. With roots that go back over a century and a number of the most famous cyclists in history among its members, the biking community in Durango is strong, encompassing a variety of groups that work in different ways to promote enthusiasm and safety in the world of Colorado cycling.
Tasked with sponsoring several major bike events in Durango throughout the year, as well as maintaining the trails around Durango and other biking community service projects, these groups are an integral part of the overall Colorado cycling community and a big reason why cycling and mountain biking in Durango, Colorado is so special.
The terrain can range from high-desert rides with rock and silt to scree fields and pedaling above tree-line. The possibilities are endless as almost all of the trails connect to one another and allow for miles and miles of exploration on two wheels. Many accomplished cyclists also use Durango as their start or endpoint as they complete the Colorado Trail to Denver!
